Freebie Friday – Teacher Sign

I’ve been learning how to make my digital cutter files available in different file formats, so I can share them with you! Each Friday, I will post a link for a free file for your digital cutter! Teacher Gift

I originally posted this last year when I first started my blog. Since I was brand new back then, I’m guessing not many saw it. So, I thought I’d repost it for (hopefully) a few more to see.

This has been my teacher gift for the last 4 years. I love it because it is so quick and  easy to make. I use whatever wood I have laying around and change the layout of the quote to fit my board.

I start with whatever wood I have sitting around the house.  I have used squares and rectangles.

I gave the edges a rough sand and drilled the holes for the ribbon.

This year, I used a black flat spray paint, but other years, I’ve used craft paint. Just whatever I have on hand.

After it was dry, I sanded the edges again.  I also lightly sanded the top to give it a worn look.

I cut out the vinyl with my digital cutter. I applied it to the wood and added a cute red ribbon.

Quick and easy and made from supplies I already had on hand!

Please Remove Your Shoes Sign

I recently bought a shoe cabinet (that I still need to put together) which inspired me to make this cute little sign.

I used the same wood as this project. I cut 4-6″ pieces and 4-9″ pieces with 45 degree angles.

I used Krylon’s Blue Ocean Breeze for the inside slats. Such a fun and fresh color! After the paint dried, I sanded each piece to remove some of the paint. I did the same with the frame pieces, except I painted them white.

Then, I applied my vinyl.

I glued my pieces together and used some white wood filler on the mitered corners.

I also glued a piece of scrapbook paper to the back to give it a little extra support. Then, I added some white cording.

Isn’t that a cute and friendly reminder for your guests to remove their shoes?

Then, I started wondering what it would look like if I switched the fonts.

I’m not sure which one I like the best. What about you?

Antiqued Clothespin Art

Here is my latest vinyl design – clothespins with a little twist! Perfect for some fun and colorful laundry room decor.

Here’s how I created this antiqued artwork.  I started by applying my vinyl to a piece of wood I painted white. I could have stopped here, because it looked really cute like this, but I thought I’d try to antique it a bit.

I applied a layer of Mod-Podge over the entire board and let it dry. This helps the paint or stain stick a little to the vinyl, otherwise, it will wipe off. I mixed some brown paint with some staining/antiquing medium and applied it to the board.

Then, wiped it off until I was happy with the results.

 And you have a cute and easy decoration to brighten up your laundry room (closet, corner, or space).

 You can make them in several colors to match your decor!

Teacher Appreciation Gift

With teacher appreciation week coming so soon, I shifted my focus from laundry room projects to teacher projects. Since making my check your pocket sign last week, I kind-of had mason jars on my mind, so I came up with this little sign for the kids to give to their teachers.

I found a new distressing technique that I thought I would try. I am pretty happy with the results. I started with a plain board and painted it gray for my under color.

Their instructions say to rub Vaseline around the edges and anywhere you want the under color to peek through. I didn’t have (or couldn’t find) any Vaseline, so I used Neosporin instead. I think it works pretty much the same.

Then, I painted it white, let it dry completely, and gave it a quick sand.

I applied the vinyl quote and attached the mason jar.

Getting the flowers to school might be a problem, so I am thinking it would be cute to make pens with the silk flower on top.

This would also make a great end-of-year gift for any teacher!
